Salvatore's Pizzaiolo Trattoria
If you eat pizza anywhere in the city other than Salvatore's don't let it fool you; It's really pizza's cousin or pizza's long lost step-relative, once removed.
Located in the Hydrostone Market, this restaurant is small, but mighty. If you haven't eaten here then you haven't eaten pizza, it's that simple. You think you know pizza, but you have no idea. It will make you feel like you've traveled far out of the city, and you are seated at a small pizzeria, tucked away in the outskirts of Italy where two burly men wearing soiled aprons, sweating, yell at each other in Italian.
We ordered the Pizza a la Siciliana (Sicilian Style) which is described on the menu as a thick rectangle crust brushed with garlic-infused extra virgin olive oil, filled with crushed imported Italian plum tomatoes , spices, fresh garlic, freshly grated Parmesan. mozzarella, and Romano cheese. These ingredients are as fresh as they suggest; it is clear that there are no preservatives or nitrates in this pizza. Make my hand from scratch Salvatore's is a win. A small ($10.96) is perfect for two, and if you take it to-go, might I suggest you pick up a nice bottle of white wine to go with your pizza? we love Boira (pinot grigio) btw: its organic.
I want some. Now.
